Monforte, Ribeira Sacra and the province of Lugo in Fitur

05/28/2021 The President of the Province of Lugo and Mayor of Monforte, José Tomé Roca, presented in Fitur the campaign "Lugo, the province is your way", a commitment of the province to initiatives based on experience far from the crowds. “We have been working for years on a sustainable, quality tourism model that works. It is time to consolidate our projects and continue betting on programs designed to support and work hand in hand with the sector, favoring the socioeconomic development of the province, which values the heritage and creates employment ”, insisted the President and Mayor of Monforte.

The Way to Santiago had a special role. “The Jacobean route attracts a type of respectful tourism in line with our line of work. Our province is very rich in pilgrimage routes and that is why we underline the importance of the itineraries that cross our municipalities”. Three routes that have been declared a World Heritage Site pass through the province of Lugo: they are the Northern Way, the Primitive Way and the French Way. In addition, another official itinerary passes through the south of the province: the Winter Way. "The Way is an opportunity to learn about the historical, cultural, natural and gastronomic heritage of our province of Lugo, but it also shows how we are the neighborhood of the province, friendly and welcoming people," said the President.

The presentation within the campaign "Lugo, the province is your way" also served to bring Fitur closer to the growing potential of the Ribeira Sacra and Monforte de Lemos as booming tourist destinations, while they wait to know if Ribeira Sacra will be declared World Heritage this year by Unesco. In Fitur the tourist offer of Monforte was reviewed with the San Vicente complex, which houses the iconic Homage Tower or the Parador de Turismo, passing through the Historic Center declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1973, the Piarist building, the museums of the city, or the Duque Balcony, without forgetting the gastronomic and wine offerings, and events such as the Medieval Fair, the Wine Festival or the Patron Saint Festivities.

The Mayor of Monforte also attended in Fitur the presentation of the stages that Galicia will host of the Cycling Tour of Spain, in which Monforte de Lemos will be the final stage on September 3rd; and held meetings with the heads of the Spanish Castles and Palaces Association and the Spanish Jewish Quarter Network, to which the Monforte de Lemos City Council belongs.
