Monforte de Lemos pilgrim service office is inaugurated

09/14/2021Monforte de Lemos Pilgrim Attention Office is located on the Winter Way pass through the city of Cabe, on the ground floor of the old Comercio Hotel in Plaza Doctor Goyanes. The office is open every day, in the morning from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and in the afternoon from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and it has the Pilgrim's Credential (the “Compostela”), which can be purchased from priced at 2 euros and stamped.

These new facilities will serve to seasonally adjust and distribute the municipal tourist offer throughout the year. Here the pilgrim is received to offer him all the information he needs about the Camino, about the city, the municipality and the Ribeira Sacra.

It has two different spaces, the Information and Service Point for both pilgrims, tourists and visitors, and an Interpretation Center for the Winter Way. However, the new office has information panels, photographs and audiovisual projections about the Winter Way and about everything that Monforte has to offer to pilgrims and visitors.

Here, a dynamic and fun way of getting closer to the resources that Monforte has is also offered, with a set of 5 illuminated drawers, which the pilgrim will have to open. They will delve into the following topics:

  1. "Monforte before Monforte" on the origin of Monforte and its first settlement, known as "lemavos".
  2. “The origin of Monforte as a nucleus”, with the oldest reference being that of the Monasteiro de San Vicente de O Pino.
  3. "The medieval Monforte", a time of significant growth.
  4. "Monforte, the boards of the kingdom and the Napoleonic war."
  5. "Monforte, city and railroad", which collects our most recent history.

Among the promotional material that the Pilgrim Service Office delivers to the visitor, the Pilgrim's Guide and Plan stand out. The City Council publishes this new tourist information, which is offered in Galician, Spanish and English, and it highlights the main points of interest that can be found both on the route through which the Camino passes in the city, as well as those next to it.
