A safe carnival in Monforte

02/16/2022 Carnival is a celebration that is lived with great interest in the municipality of Monforte, in the Lemos region and throughout the Ribeira Sacra. The main activities take place from Thursday,February 17th, with the Thursday of Compadres. According to tradition,  women stole the men's clothes, to dress the compadres on this day; a week later, for Comadres Thursday, Thursday, February 24th, the process would be reversed.

At present, families and groups of friends prepare their compadres and comadres, who during these two Thursdays dress the city in color, humor and carnival.

After the Thursdays of compadres and comadres, Monforte celebrates its parade of comparsas and floats on Shrove Tuesday, March 1st. On this day, fun stars in the afternoon in the city of Cabe. Every year the parade brings together people, gangs and educational centers that bring music and partying around the city. The parade leaves at 5:00 p.m. from the Plaza de la Estación to continue through Calvo Sotelo and Roberto Baamonde streets and ends on the esplanade of the Company with the awards ceremony.

The protocol dictated by the health authorities includes a series of basic measures aimed at guaranteeing the safe use of public spaces abroad, such as the mandatory use of the mask, interpersonal distance or hand hygiene.

In the same way, the use of public roads for the celebration of parades or music or dance exhibitions must be carried out under the conditions determined by the corresponding municipal authority, for which the City Council works to guarantee this celebration, ensure compliance with current safety, hygiene and interpersonal distance measures.
