XX Medieval Fair of Monforte, March 30th and 31st

03/24/2024 The Monforte Medieval Fair is an essential event to enjoy Easter in the Ribeira Sacra. The craft and gastronomy stalls decorate the streets and squares, with falconry shows, fire juggling, archery, musical performances, tournaments, horse riding... The entire city is decorated in period style, with the Plaza de España standing out as the main stage, where The Medieval Camp is installed, the Régoa atrium and the streets of the old area with its decorated stalls and balconies or the surroundings of the Escolapios where the Medieval Jousts take place.

Everything invites you to take a trip to the past and makes Monforte a medieval city worth visiting and enjoying. The program of events is as follows:

  • 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (days 30 and 31) MEDIEVAL MARKET, medieval stalls and stops – streets and Plaza de Abastos.
  • STREET PERFORMANCES (days 30 and 31)
  • MEDIEVAL CAMP (days 30 and 31) in the Plaza de España 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: medieval shops and pavilions, gunsmiths' exhibition with weapons of different styles, helmets, military panoplies, clothing civil and medieval utensils, guarding the Camp and Patrol Rounds around the fair, carrying out levies among the people for their military training.
  • MEDIEVAL DEMONSTRATION AND PARTICIPATORY WORKSHOPS (days 30 and 31) 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Making chain mail / Textile work, making historical clothing / Scriptorium – writing and illustration techniques on parchment / Exhibition of crafts – Forging of weapons and utensils, wood carving)
  • MILITARY TRAINING /FENCING PRACTICES /WALL OF SHIELD (days 30 and 31) 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • EXHIBITION AND SHOW OF BIRDS OF PREY – FALCONRY (days 30 and 31) with the group “Halcones Galicia”. 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. / Plaza de San Antonio. With flight shows at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • MEDIEVAL CHILDREN'S CAMP (days 30 and 31) on Santa Clara Street - Plaza de las Madres Clarisas. 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. With children's games and attractions: medieval tournament, pendulum, ball eater, stilts, ferris wheel, boat, carousel and medieval drumstick...
  • ARCHERY PRACTICES (days 30 and 31) in the Régoa atrium, with the Arco Lemos archery club from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • 12:00 p.m. (day 30) in the Plaza de España the company O neno lápiz will report on what will happen this weekend. This will be followed by the Mayor's GREETING which will end with an artillery salute with a replica of a 14th century bombard.
  • 2:30 p.m. (day 30) Medieval Lunch at the Pazo dos Condes – Parador Nacional Monforte de Lemos. Reserve in advance. (Information and reservations 982 418 484 monforte@parador.es).
  • 4:30 p.m. (day 30) Parade of knights, squires and soldiers of the GRAND MEDIEVAL TOURNAMENT and the medieval music group Turdíon through the streets and squares of the Fair.
  • 1:30 p.m. (day 31) Parade of knights, squires and soldiers of the GREAT MEDIEVAL TOURNAMENT and the medieval music group Turdíon through the streets and squares of the Fair.
  • 5:00 p.m. (day 31) Concentration in the Plaza España of the participants in the XI Medieval Costume Contest and evaluation of the jury on the stage of the Fair with the Appointment of Donas e Cabaleiros das Mesnadas do Cabe by the very Loyal and Noble Order of the Knights of the Way.
  • 18:00h (days 30 and 31) VIII MEDIEVAL JUSTS, the knights, squires and soldiers of Hípica Celta will hold a -GREAT MEDIEVAL TOURNAMENT on the dirt field of the Escolapios.
  • 6:00 p.m. (day 31) In the Plaza de España the Historical Recreation Association “Knights of Ulver” will hold an exhibition of medieval civil and military clothing, as well as a display of weapons.
  • 19:00 (day 31) In the Plaza de España, awards ceremony for the 11th medieval costume competition, the 8th balcony decoration competition and the 9th establishment decoration competition.
  • 20:00 (days 30 and 31) Elephant Parade with the Skalir group through the streets of the fair from the Plaza de España.
  • 8:30 p.m. (day 30) Medieval music concert with Grimorium in the Plaza de España
  • 9:00 p.m. (day 30) Climb from the Plaza de España to the Parador to the rhythm of drums with the medieval music group Grimorium, together with the group Tambores, Bufóns e Trobadores Medievais de Troula
  • 9:30 p.m. (day 30) The show A Lenda das Meigas will take place in Luis de Góngora Square, a ritual moment to purify souls.
  • 10:15 p.m. (day 30) Luis de Góngora Square, LIGHTS will be released to fill the sky of Monforte with light on this night back to the Middle Ages.
  • 21:00 (day 31) Innana Show in the Plaza de San Antonio.

After 20 editions of the Medieval Fair, the Monforte City Council hopes to obtain recognition as a Fair of Galician Tourist Interest for the 2025 edition.
