Ribeira Sacra de Monforte Wine Festival

June 6, 2025 The Festival will take place as usual, around the Paseo del Malecón. One of this year's new features will be the introduction of Tokens, personalized tokens used as a form of payment, replacing the usual stamps sold at the reception stands. Backlighting and access have been added to the entrance portico, allowing it to continue to be used as a photocall space.

The Festival hours are as follows:

  • Friday, July 4th, from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 5th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 6th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 12:00 a.m. to midnight

 

Throughout the Festival there will be different information totems with the activity program so that the visitor can follow each of the activities at different times. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the premises. The 30 Wineries participating in this sixth edition of the Ribeira Sacra de Monforte Wine Festival constitute a sample of all the subzones of the Ribeira Sacra DO: A Man de Prado, Aba Solleira, Abadía da Cova, Adega Vella, Albaredos-Hobbs, Algueira, Alma das Donas, Alouviño, Asolagados, Cividade, Condado de Sequeiras, Corzoás, Cruceiro, Don Bernardino, EDV, Finca Cuarta, Finca Míllara, Galanteiro, Guímaro, Gullufre, Lucenza, Malcavada, Ohmio, Petrón, Peza do Rei, Proencia, Regina Viarum, Tear, Tolo do Xisto, Viña Vella.

In addition, the Festival will feature a Gastronomy Zone that will better complement the wine tasting. This year, there will be a total of 12 participants, spread throughout the venue, offering local products, from cheeses, ham stalls, artisanal ice cream, and bakeries, to more elaborate dishes prepared by Monforte de Lemos restaurants.

The Paseo del Malecón will host three musical performances on July 4th and 5th. The official opening will take place on Friday, July 4th, with a performance by the Grupo Searas at 8:30 pm. At 8:45 pm, institutional speeches will be given by the Mayor of Monforte and President of the Lugo Provincial Council, José Tomé, and by the Town Crier, who this year will be José Luis Iravedra, President of the "O Tizón" Cultural and Gastronomic Association. That same day, at 11 pm, Lucía Pérez will perform. On Saturday, July 5th, at 11 pm, it will be the turn of a Galician musical group, A Banda da Loba.

The program will include two tasting workshops: On Saturday, July 5th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the workshop "Discover: Unique Grapes of the Ribeira Sacra" will be led by Carlota Iglesias, a member of the Galician Sommelier Association. On Sunday, July 6th, at the same time, the sensory workshop "The Taste of Wine with Music" will be held by sommelier Suso Soneira accompanied by the musical group Amalia & Manuel.

On July 5th, there will be a Masterclass led by Jorge Vila, director of the Galicia Wine Academy. From 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., entitled "In Search of the Centenary-Old Wines of the Ribeira Sacra."

All workshops and masterclasses are free and will take place in the area designated as a Tasting Room within the Paseo del Malecón complex. However, since the maximum number of participants is 35, advance reservations are required by calling 611 96 32 05 or emailing festivalmonforte@gmail.com.

The Ribeira Sacra de Monforte Wine Festival will feature the usual children's activities in the designated area next to the River Cabe. On Saturday 5th, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, there will be storytelling by Anxo Moure. From 7:30 to 8:30 pm, there will be face painting by Velaísca Animación. On Sunday 6th, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm, there will be a traditional Ribeira Sacra pottery workshop by Figulus. And from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, there will be paper theater by Tarabelos.

Wine Routes along the Sil and Miño Rivers

All Wine Routes will depart from Parque de los Condes, where a professional guide will lead the activity in a minibus. Reservations are required by phone at 611 96 32 05 or email festivalmonforte@gmail.com.

The Sil Wine Route, "A Ribeira do Sil e os seus viños" (The Sil Riverbank and its Vineyards), will take place on Saturday, July 5th, departing at 3:30 p.m. Several wineries will be visited, specifically Adega Algueira in the parish of Francos and Adega Cruceiro in the parish of Vilachá. The tour will then depart for the Ponte do Sil pier and take a tour of the Sil Canyon, where you can learn about its spectacular mountain viticulture.

On Sunday, July 6th, the Miño Wine Route, “A Ribeira do Miño e os seus viños” (The Miño Riverbank and its Vineyards), will allow you to explore the banks of the Miño River by Zodiac. Departing at 9:30 a.m. from Monforte, the tour will begin with a Zodiac tour to explore the terraced vineyards of this mountain viticulture region. A stop will be made at the Augacaída Waterfall. A visit to the Abadía da Cova winery is scheduled to follow. From there, the tour will head to the municipality of Pantón for a fun activity with the company El Secreto del Monje, where six wines will be tasted, several of them blind.
